Tom Cosm

Tom Cosm is a traveling producer and performer who is approaching the electronic music scene from a completely different angle. Tom's method of thinking "outside of the box" has earned him quite a fan base amogst the Ableton fraternity! As he moves around the globe, he performs live computer driven music using a laptop, synthesizers and various machines. He also hosts workshops and private lessons, passing on his knowledge freely to anyone willing to listen. Passionate about raising the quality of the live laptop scene, Tom’s main teaching focus is to help producers take the leap into the world of live performance, offering his own unique, easy and safe techniques to quickly move tunes into an Ableton ready set. His music project is "open source", relying heavily on the community formed around it, to help it to grow and spread, as he has no other means of promotion other than word of mouth. “I started out giving away my music for free, as most producers do… but when I got to the point where I could start charging, I decided to see what would happen if I didn’t. Restricting my creativity to people who could either afford it, or have the technical ability to steal it, didn’t really appeal to me. I want my fan base to be part of the project, completely open to anyone, and I have no doubt that my life is much happier because of this.” All of his music, files and video tutorials are available for free, and can be found all over various communities on the internet, just Google “Tom Cosm”. Tom put some time aside from his busy Ableton antics to to answer our questions and give us a little juicy Ableton tip. Thanks Tom!

DJ Ham

From leaving school at 16 Ham (real name Hamilton) went straight into writing tracks with Kniteforce records under the guidance of label owner Luna-C. Although he had already had some experience in the studio with his own basic equipment Luna-C quickly educated Ham to the next level. In 1995 He was able to finance the purchase of a reasonable studio setup with the proceeds of his Kniteforce releases. From there, being able to write and produce every day, he began to develop his trade and progress his skills. It was from there that he produced the classic anthems such as"Is There Anybody Out There" for Slipmatt's label Universal and "Here I Am" with Demo & Justin Time as well as a cheeky venture into Handbag House along side his old Kniteforce stable-mate Poosie under the guise of Powerhouse with a track called "Rhythm Of The Night" which hit the UK national charts. In late 1996 Ham then formed the record label Next Generation Records with partner in crime Dj Brisk. The label created an immediate impact on the scene and produced some of the late 90's biggest Hardcore anthems. In 1998 Blatant Beats was born. While it's original purpose was for tracks of a more naughty nature the label quickly proved itself to be as popular as Next Generation. To date the two labels have amassed over 470 releases. In 1999 Ham & Brisk decided to venture into the world of Trance and Hard House. Stimulant Records was born. While the label began fairly quietly it started to make an impact in 2000. Ham & Brisk were largely responsible for all the tracks on Stimulant under their various guises Stimualnt Djs, Cyberdrive, Dropzone and Ham's solo effort Alumina. The Stimulant Djs hit the big time after two huge releases on Tidy Trax "Hoovertime" and "Are U Serious" which both sold over 15,000. Throughout this time Ham has been busy Djing over the Uk and overseas including Finland, Germany, Austria, USA, Canada & Australia whilst trying to juggle a busy studio schedule and manage the record labels. Most recent accomplishments include acclaimed vocal tracks under his guise Eclipse "24/7" and "Be Happy" and more unique Ham tracks such as "Jump 2 Da Groove" and "Count Of Three" as well as mixing Hardcore Euphoria and Bonkers 17 with Brisk.

DJ Sharkey

Sharkey initially became well known as an MC at hardcore rave events in the UK in 1993, with a popular and charismatic style. In 1995, he moved into music production, teaming up with DJ Hixxy to release the track "Toytown", which proved one of the biggest signature tunes of the UK's happy hardcore scene in the 1990s. This led both Sharkey and Hixxy to being signed by the UK's leading dance music label, React Music, and the pair released "Bonkers", the first in a series of albums which has become the best-selling hardcore compilation series of all time. "Revolutions", a release on React, reached 53 in the UK charts, and Sharkey consequently released the album "Hard Life" in 1998. He established a relationship with the up-and-coming DJ Kevin Energy in 1998, and the pair were, with several other DJs, instrumental in the creation of the freeform genre of hardcore (a term which was coined by Sharkey himself). A major keystone of the freeform movement is The Nu Energy Collective, of which Sharkey and Kevin Energy are the best-known faces, and the freeform sound played a lead role in the renaissance of the hardcore sound in the early 2000s. As well as that, Sharkey also makes time for various projects, most notably, putting a number unknown, but talented musicians through a self devised music technology course some 18 months in length.
